Every entertainment room needs a few things in order to look as good as possible. Surprisingly, it's not all about the couches and television sets, either. Don't misunderstand, those do matter. However, sometimes the small touches make the biggest difference.

This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and heavy guage steel. The arms extend over 20-Inch from the wall yet fold to less than 5-Inch. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 165lbs and most displays 55-Inch and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has dual tilt adjustment knobs and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. The wall plate is 19-Inch wide and has wide slots making it easy to mount into standard 16-Inch studs even if they are not exactly 16-Inch apart. Thus, the arms may be visible on the sides of 32-Inch units. The universal design will fit any display with a hole pattern up to 26.3-Inch wide and 18-Inch tall. The wall plate is 1/8-Inch thick and very stable and includes a large center hole for cable pass-though into the wall. This mount will swivel approximately 150 degrees depending on the size of your display. Dual TV locking screws are included to prevent accidental liftoff of the display. The AS3B is a tri-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2.25-Inch holes on the aluminum plate that allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. I would like to offer a few pointers on the installation of overhead garage storage racks. I have learned the hard way, having installed over 5000 racks from 11 different manufacturers. I will cover the basics of installation that will work on any garage overhead shelf you should encounter.

Locating the Truss for Hanging Ceiling Racks

I cannot stress enough, that the most important job that you will do is to locate the center of every truss in your ceiling to insure a secure mounting for your overhead garage shelves. If your garage ceiling is un-finished, the job of centering the truss is a lot easier. I am assuming that you are working on a finished ceiling with the trusses hidden by wall board.

I have no problem using a stud finder to locate the truss, but I would like to tell you about a simple method to use in conjunction with the finder. This method will remove all doubt as to your position on the truss you wish to mount the garage racks to. Let me back up for a second. All ceiling mounted shelves or racks will require you to drive screws or lag bolts through some type of ceiling mount into the roof trusses.

Making Sure You Find the Center of the Truss for Strong, Safe, Overhead Garage Storage Racks

It goes without saying that if you don't hit the center of each truss, you could have a very weak connection and a possible failure of the hanging ceiling racks.

When drilling across the face of every truss I place a stick pin into the wall board at the center. Stick pins are a great way to layout a shelf on the ceiling and mark the spots for pilot holes. Another must do! You must always drill pilot holes before driving any lag or screw into a truss. If you fail to do this, you can expect to split the roof truss and weaken the mount.

I highly recommend that you layout the mounting points of your overhead shelf using stick pins to mark the drill points. This allows you to trial fit all of the connection points before you commit to hanging the first section.

You are going to find sections of the ceiling where the trusses are in odd spots. You will find this sometimes when you are trying to mount a rack in a corner with a hip roof. You will sometimes find trusses going two different directions in a very small area. You will find trusses to be either 16" or 24" apart. In some cases TGI trusses in a garage with a second story overhead will sometimes be 20" apart. This is why researching the truss locations in advance is so important. Once you have mounted your overhead garage rack secured to the ceiling you are ready to start putting your extra storage items up and out of the way.

The AVF ESL422B-T is a ‘Tilt & Turn' TV mount with attached dual AV shelves for screen sizes up to 40". This unit supports flat panel TV's up to 66 lbs, has the capacity to hold 22 lbs per shelf and is compatible with VESA mounting patterns up to 800mm x 400mm. The shelves are constructed out of tempered glass and are height adjustable to accommodate larger AV equipment. The ESL422B-T turns for improved viewing angles and reduced glare. Rawl bolts are a kind of expansion bolt. More precisely they are what is known as an expanding shield anchor fastener. Although, having said that, people have had success using bolts in thermalite and partition walls. It often happens that the rawl bolts do not grip the thermalite or that it crumbles under pressure in which case a quick hardening resin is used to bond the bolt to the wall.

Rawl bolts are one of the most secure option for hanging heavy things because of the expansion making sure that the bolt is securely seated in the wall as long as it is tightened properly. The weight that they are able to handle will be indicated on the packaging and the size hole needed should also be indicated.

Installing a set of rawl bolts is really easy too. All you have to do is drill the appropriate sized hole, making sure you do not put a hole into a mortar joint. Clean out the hole so that there is no dust inside it from the drilling process. Any dirt in the hole can make the bolt slip as it is not going to be actually gripping the wall but will be trying to grip the dirt instead. Then you insert the bolt and its sleeve and start to tighten the nut. As you tighten the nut the sleeve will expand and fill the hole. This is what makes the rawl bolt stay in place.

If you need to hang a television mount or some book shelves then you may want to consider using rawl bolts. Just make sure that you use enough of them to make sure that you do not exceed the weight that they can handle and cause them to rip free of the wall you have put them into.
