Teenagers need their own space. It's an age where they gain their independence and prefer to be alone or with their friends than with their family for some of the time. It's important they have a great space of their own, that suits their needs and that they can spend time with their friends in. If your teen has reached an age where they have outgrown their childish room, then a complete revamp is due!
First think about what you want the room to do. They will obviously need somewhere to sleep and to store their clothes. They will probably need somewhere to study, somewhere for friends to sit and perhaps play computer games or listen to music, and some storage space.
Wall Mount Shelfs
It's a good idea to have a clear out and a declutter before you design a new room. There's no point making space for a huge cupboard for example if most of the toys and games are no longer used. When you know what is left to store, you'll have a better idea of what furniture you need in the room.
All teens are obviously different and have different needs so try and work out what they are. If they have large collections of things they may like lots of shelving or display cabinets. If they're really into gaming then a dedicated area for a TV and somewhere their games and consoles can be neatly stored is a great idea. If they often have friends round, a sofa bed is very useful for day guests and sleepovers. Bean bags and floor cushions are handy too as they don't take up too much space and are easy to move about.
Cheap floor tiles can work well in a teen room. Cork or rubber look cool and are very easy to keep clean. Cheap simple furniture usually works best for a teen room. Get it all matching for the best look. Some nice lamps can make the room feel cosy on an evening. Do make sure the room is sufficiently heated too. If the room is cold you could consider underfloor heating. This works well under floor tiles.
If the room is very small then consider a high bed. You can get high sleeper beds that have desk space underneath and a chair that converts into another bed, or cabin beds with lots of storage underneath. You can get them that look very cool and not childish so your teen should hopefully like the idea too. With a high bed you can put shelves up at the right level for it and you can mount a television on a bracket on the wall to be at the right height to be watched in bed.
Your teen will most likely have a lot to say about how they want their room, so listen to them and try to accommodate their needs. Hopefully they'll end up with a room both you and they are proud of.

The AS3B is a tri-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2.25-Inch holes on the aluminum plate that allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. After reviewing our competition we realized that most shelving units need to be mounted directly into a wall stud. In most cases the wall stud is placed to the right or to the left of the display, which is not where most people prefer to have their shelves mounted. This is still the most secure option however, after significant research we’ve fount that using the correct toggle bolts can allow you to mount your shelving unit wherever you see fit. With the combination of four of these toggle bolts the shelving unit is able to hold well over 70LBS safely. Each individual toggle bolt provides 75LBS of support. Please not that a good toggle bolt is still only as good as the quality of the drywall it is mounted into.
